Hightower won the primary election race but thanks to Governor Ron DeSantis, is starting much sooner than anticipated.

As of 9:00 p.m. Sunday, 43 percent of Jefferson households were without power.

Reams has been found guilty of stealing more than $800,000 in public funds from the county.

Many years ago, Jefferson County was the pre-eminent watermelon producer. Now, some local farms are once again growing watermelons as a commercial crop.

Reams' case ended in a mistrial.

Six Monticello residents have been selected to serve on the jury.

As of Thursday afternoon, 5 people had been rescued from their homes.

Reams is accused of defrauding the county out of hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Jason Welty will be taking on a new role as the county’s Clerk of Court. It’s the latest move after Gov. DeSantis suspended the last clerk after he was charged with stealing hundreds of thousands of dollars from the county.

Walker, who lives in Monticello, died Sunday evening after he was involved in a car crash.
