Fallen trees and live wires pose a threat to safety as citizens continue in the aftermath of Hurricane Hermine, and local law enforcement has been working overtime to clear the streets of debris and potential hazards.

Hurricane Hermine is approaching the Big Bend. It is expected to make landfall to the East of Tallahassee. The biggest threat to coastal areas is storm surge. Tallahassee is the closest big city to the center of the storm and could also see damaging effects.

Leon county schools will be closed Thursday and Friday ahead of Tropical Storm Hermine. Superintendent Jackie Pons said the move not only protects children, but also allows six Leon County schools to be converted into staging areas as part of a county-wide emergency plan.
