Leon County Commissioners Tuesday reviewed the local response to Hurricane Hermine. Commissioners received a report containing more than 100 ideas for improvement.
County Communications head Matt Cavell says doing a better job of getting information to residents is one area that’s in obvious need of improvement. And he says officials are already working on that—starting with the outage map.
“Misinformation is a critical part of what we have to deal with in public information for disaster and one portion of that was the city of Tallahassee’s outage map—the one that was never designed to show specific locations of outages, but rather an approximate area about impacts of storms,” Cavell says.
The report also includes recommendations for changes like better coordinating with other government entities such as schools.
