Northwood Centre

The Tallahassee City Commission has given formal backing for a performing arts facility at the Northwood Center. It would be part of a broader redevelopment effort which includes a new space for the Tallahassee Police Department and now, possibly some sort of affordable housing.

A long-sought performing arts center is closer to becoming a reality. The Tallahassee City Commission is poised to take up a deal to pave the way for it. The proposed site of the center is the Northwood complex, which has recently been demolished to make way for the new headquarters of the Tallahassee Police Department.

Part of the space will be a new headquarters for the police department, but city officials say they’re hoping to use the rest of the nearly 30 acres to help meet communities needs such as creating green space or gathering areas.

The old Northwood Centre is being bulldozed starting today. The location between North Monroe St. and Tharpe St. is being readied for redevelopment.
