City leaders are seeking more community input on the Northwood Centre

Tallahassee leaders are looking for more public input on redevelopment plans for the Northwood Centre.

Part of the space will be a new headquarters for the police department, but city officials say they’re hoping to use the rest of the nearly 30 acres to meet other communities needs such as creating green space or gathering areas.

Deputy City Manager Cynthia Barber says part of the goal is creating opportunities for members of the public to have positive interactions with police.

“We’re looking for a facility that will create not only housing, a location, for the police department but will be more inviting for the community to have more proactive and positive engagement," Barber told attendees at a community listening session on the projectback in January.

More than 200 people attended the January meeting on the development. Others have submitted comments via email. Now officials are preparing for another session on March 29.
Officials say they’ll give an update on the project and hope to hear more input from community members.

A tentative timeline has construction on the project beginning in 2023.
