Northwood Centre Owners Sue State Over Broken Leases

Northwood Centre

Owners of the Northwood Center are suing the state of Florida over broken leases. Four state agencies currently rent space in the building but the Florida legislature de-funded those leases in the budget that begins this June.

The state of Florida is moving its workers out of the Northwood Center. The move came amid concerns over air quality and the discovery of bat feces in the building. Now Northwood’s owners are suing the state over broken leases. Northwood Spokesman Jon Peck says the building’s owners argue the legislature’s move to de-fund the leases is unconstitutional.

Northwood Associates has a valid contract with several state agencies for Northwood Center. And one of the conditions of those leases is they operate in good faith. And by attempting to use the legislature to break the lease, that violates that sense of fairness," he said.

As Northwood launches its lawsuit against the state, more than five dozen current and former Northwood workers are suing building management. Those workers argue they’ve been sickened by  the building.
