The Environmental Protection Agency has completed a more than decade-long cleanup at Cascades Park. A manufactured gas plant closed more than 50 years ago had contaminated the area’s soil with chemicals.

Tallahassee commissioners have approved the sale of the city’s old waterworks buildings. The lot will go to North American Properties--the only developer that submitted a bid. Some public commenters pushed against the sale—raising concerns about how NAP has handled other developments, such as the new housing project currently underway near Cascades Park. But Commissioner Curtis Richardson said the city is lucky to work with NAP.

Plans For New Sculpture Unveiled

Plans for a new artistic amenity in Tallahassee were announced this Thursday. A new sculpture will soon be added to Cascades Park as part of the #iHeartTally campaign.

Tallahassee's joint city/county Community Development Agency has given a final "yes" vote to a massive new development along the north border of Cascades Park. Construction could get underway in about six months.

Tallahassee's Community Redevelopment Agency has approved the sale of the Bloxham Building and old jail near Cascades Park.  The move is part of a redevelopment effort in the area, and could become the new home of a mixed use development project.

The South Monroe Street entrance to downtown Tallahassee now includes murals that grace the supports of the railway bridge over the roadway. Local officials say it’s the start of a makeover for what has long been an unimpressive approach to the State Capitol.

The murals are part of the “Street Art Tallahassee” project hosted by COCA, the Council of Culture and the Arts headed by Audra Pittman.
