In addition to the many musical performances, the Word of South Festival also features lots of discussion sessions with prominent local, regional and national writers.

Tallahassee's Word of South Festival, a unique mix of literature and music, happens April 4th through the 6th in Cascades Park. Event founder Mark Mustian said this year will feature a double dose of headliners.

"Friday night's ticketed show is The Violent Femmes with the Tallahassee Symphony. It's almost sold out. And then Saturday night the show in the amphitheater is Danny Bedrosian with George Clinton and other members of P-Funk. And it's a whole choreographed set that goes through the history of P-Funk and a bunch of people are coming in, it should be a lot of fun."

Mustian added that's just the start of a very busy weekend.

"We have the group American Aquarium and another group Mustard Service who are well-known folks. We have great authors. Chris Bohjailian will be there. Emma Walsh, our local lawyer and leader Sean Pittman has written a book and he'll be there. We have a whole special thing Saturday on the plaza that we're calling Plaza Fest. We have a number of African-American artists that's gonna be pretty fun."

And Mustian, whose latest book is set for a mid-March release, will be in a double role as literary presenter and event overseer. This is the 10th year for the Word of South Festival.
