FILE - Vice President Kamala Harris speaks at the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. annual convention during the 71st biennial Boule at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center in Dallas, Wednesday, July 10, 2024.

Vice President Kamala Harris is so far unopposed in her bid for the Democratic Presidential Nomination. She has broad support among Leon County Democrats.

In an interview with WFSU, Leon Democratic Party Chair Ryan Ray said putting Harris at the top of the Democratic ticket would give continuity to the Biden Administration.

“I have full faith and confidence in her ability to lead us to victory in November as the Democratic nominee, and I'm excited to do everything in my power that I can to help elect her America's first ever woman president,” Ray said.

Tallahassee Mayor John Dailey also supports Harris. He said the Biden administration has been good to Tallahassee.

“Most recently, the funding that we received through FEMA for the tornadoes that came through community development block grants, aviation funding, housing funding, mass transit funding. This administration has been really good at Tallahassee, so certainly do appreciate his service,” he said.

Tallahassee City Commissioner Curtis Richardson believes Harris is the right candidate to beat former President Donald Trump.

“I am 100% again behind vice president Kamala Harris and her ambition to become the next president of the United States of America, I think she will do an excellent job. She certainly is qualified for the position, and we've got to make sure that we protect our democracy from the likes of a Donald Trump,” he said.

Leon County Commissioner and alternate Democratic delegate Rick Minor said he plans on supporting Harris at the Democratic National Convention.

“Kamala Harris is a remarkable public servant, and she's the best person to prosecute the case against Donald Trump. She's generated a lot of energy in such a short amount of time, even my two young daughters, 10 and five, are excited. They love Kamala, and they want to see her get elected. As an alternate delegate, I'll be going to Chicago next month, and it'll be an honor to support her nomination,” he said.

National Democrats are expected to officially nominate Harris through a virtual rollcall. That vote is scheduled to take place by August 7tb. According to a CNN delegate estimate, she’s been backed by well more than the 1,976 pledged delegates needed to win the nomination on the first ballot.
