President Joe Biden announced he is dropping his reelection bid Sunday afternoon.
The move came after mounting national calls for him to drop out after a poor debate performance last month and slumping performances in polling. Shortly after the announcement, he also announced he would be endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris to receive the Democratic Party presidential nominee.
Here is how Florida politicians are responding to Biden’s announcement:
FDP Chair Nikki Fried
Thank you @POTUS. Joe Biden will be remembered as one of the greatest presidents of our lifetimes — the nation is eternally grateful. Now, the Democratic Party must be more united than ever to defeat Donald Trump.

RPOF Chair Evan Power
They have confirmed what we have known all along, yet they lied to the American people. The democrats have ignored their grassroots so they can install another puppet leader. They will not win! https://t.co/sEcsFzF6b8

U.S. Senator Rick Scott
If Joe Biden can’t run for re-election, he is not capable of serving as president for the next six months and needs to resign NOW!

Democratic U.S. Rep. Jared Moskowitz
I hereby endorse Kamala Harris!

Democratic U.S. Rep. Maxwell Alejandro Frost
The most progressive and one of the most effective Presidents in our country’s history. The President to do the most on ending gun violence, defeating the climate crisis, and protecting working people. I have a lot more to say but for now I’ll just say: Thank you @JoeBiden. pic.twitter.com/ILnMeUJPM6

Republican U.S. Rep. Mike Waltz
If President Biden isn’t fit to run for re-election, he isn’t fit to continue as commander-in-chief. He should resign.

We are in a period of maximum danger with a wide open southern border and the world on fire.
Republican U.S. Rep. Greg Steube
Not running for reelection is a clear admission that President Trump was right all along about Biden not being mentally fit enough to serve as Commander-in-Chief.

It’s disturbing and reckless that he’s been “running” the country as long as he has…
Let me repeat: if he doesn’t…
