Newly-elected Leon County Commissioner Christian Caban has hired an aide. That normally wouldn’t merit a press event. The aide is Allie Richards, daughter of the man whose death created the open District 2 seat Caban now occupies.
Richards’ father, the late Jimbo Jackson, died in May of long COVID. Caban was elected last month to serve the rest of Jackson’s term, representing the southwestern portion of Leon County. He and Richards will pursue some of the late commissioner’s key projects…and what she described as his many relationships.
“My dad, his passion was District 2,” she said. “My family’s heart and soul is the Fort Braden community, and it’s such an honor to be in the same places and spaces that he was and get to work alongside some of the people he considered family.”
A lifelong resident of Fort Braden, Richards campaigned with her father when he ran for office in 2016. She has been a special education teacher at Gilchrist Elementary and has two young daughters, an infant and an 18-month-old.
