The FSU Presidential Search Committee will be reviewing firms to help find the next president. The selected firm will create a hiring plan, advertise the position, and recruit candidates. FSU's Kyle Clark points out some of the criteria the committee will use to evaluate firms.
"We'll be looking at their experience with presidential searches, what searches have they done in the past for presidents, we'll be looking at their experience in working with Florida law," Clark says.
The committee will interview three to five firms on November 10 with the intent of selecting a firm on November 16. In the meantime, FSU Student Senate President Ahmad Omar Daraldik is talking with students about the presidential search. He says many want their next president to understand the oppression, hardship, and trauma some students might be facing due to their identity.
"Whether it be the individual themself is from a diverse background or has worked with diverse communities throughout their professional careers," Daraldik says.
He points to FSU's history of hiring white male presidents and hopes this time it will be a woman or person of color. But, Daraldik says realistically, that might not happen. Clark says one of the criteria FSU will be looking for in a firm is its commitment to diversity.
