At the September 11 Board of Trustees meeting, Board Chairman Ed Burr announced they will begin the search for a new college president earlier than expected.

The Florida State University Board of Trustees will form a presidential search committee this Friday to replace John Thrasher. He will continue as president until a new one is chosen. Board Chairman Ed Burr says the COVID-19 pandemic could impact the search, so he wants to get a head start.

“I don’t think anyone’s done a presidential search in the age of COVID. No one in the state of Florida has done that. How that’s going to work, what’s that going to entail, how long that’s going to take, no one really has the answers—just cause what a traditional four to six-month presidential search [has] historically lasted—I don’t know what that’s going to take," Burr says.

Burr praised Thrasher for helping FSU become a top 20 university. His current contract is approved through November 2021.
