Jet Blue is choosey when deciding where to set up new airline services, but that hasn’t stopped local political leaders from asking the company to come to Tallahassee.

The Tallahassee International Airport is setting its sights on the discount carrier Jet Blue. The city of Tallahassee’s letter writing campaign has generated more than 50 requests to the carrier to come into the city.

A Jet Blue spokeswoman says the company doesn’t publicly announce where it will open its next service site. Jet Blue says it makes those decisions based on the number of passengers who travel the route each day and an analysis of existing fares and service.

Airport Director Chris Curry recently said he believes Tallahassee meet’s the carrier’s requirements for service.

“I do know the destination we’re seeking from Jet Blue by the numbers and statistics will work. It’s just a matter of the airline’s strategic plan aligning with the goals of Tallahassee," he said.

The company also seeks out markets where it can where it can compete in pricing. During the past decade, Tallahassee has lost major carriers making travel in and out of the city by air difficult.
