Starting Labor Day, the WFSU News team will air a five-part series that tries to answer the question “How’s it working in Tallahassee?” Florida Gov. Rick Scott made the phrase “It’s working” the cornerstone of his State of the State speech earlier this year and the basis for a series of e-mails in the months since, prompting the WFSU newsroom to look into some of the signs of success Scott points to and whether people in one city – Tallahassee – are also seeing progress in their community.
The series, which will run during Morning Edition each weekday during the week of Sept. 2, examines how Tallahassee is changing because of its business climate. “The series was a very collaborative effort,”says WFSU News reporter Jessica Palombo. “What started out as Regan McCarthy pitching a story about high-end nightlife coming to Tallahassee turned into all of us asking whether there were other signs of local economic recovery.” The series includes pieces from Palombo, McCarthy, Lynn Hatter, Sascha Cordner and Tom Flanigan. It's built around interviews with more than a dozen people who have stakes in the Tallahassee business community.
