Tallahassee bicentennial

The project echoes a similar effort during Tallahassee's Centennial celebration in 1924.

The festival was originally part of an organized campaign to dissuade the Florida Legislature from moving the state capital to Central Florida.

The 9 acre fairgrounds was located between 1880 and 1925 in the area now occupied by the Levy Park neighborhood.

Many organizations connected to the area's history, culture and heritage were eager to share that information with festivalgoers.

The Old City Cemetery is the final resting place of many who died locally between 1829 and the 1920s.

A new exhibit called "Becoming Florida's Capitol" is on display from now through January 2025 as the city and county celebrate their 200th anniversary.

Lawmakers met at the Capitol Thursday to adopt a resolution recognizing the bicentennial. The celebration then continued outside in the courtyard.
