A mix of ideal weather and the Bicentennial spirit brought out many thousands of people to the Springtime Tallahassee Parade and Jubilee on Saturday.
The parade included lots of marching bands, along with various floats depicting the city's historic eras, plus many elected officials and numerous local business enterprises. The fun continued with the Jubilee in the Park with dozens of commercial, government and organization booths. We spoke with a guy who identified himself simply as "Alex."
"I think it's just so wonderful to see the community all come together with so much activity, so many people walking around and having fun with such beautiful weather today. It's just Tallahassee at its best!"
The celebration even brought people from hundreds of miles away. One of them was Joe Perrino, who was part of the Santiago Parade Krewe from Tampa.
"First of all, we enjoy coming to this parade. But most of my kids went to Florida State. I've done this parade for the last 8 years with my kids up here and had a good time."
This was the 56th Springtime Tallahassee festival. The first was in 1968, when the community fought to remain the state capital as downstate lawmakers tried to relocate it to Central Florida.
