Capital Report: April 24, 2023

Despite some controversy, the Florida Senate has confirmed the six trustees that Governor Ron DeSantis recently appointed to guide New College. But as Margie Menzel reports, those trustees didn’t receive broad support from parents and students who spoke during the hearing.

The audio clip featuring Governor DeSantis came from an interview he did in March with Glenn Beck.

A bill that would ban undocumented people from being admitted into the Florida Bar, is getting its second committee reading in the Florida Senate today (Tues).

There’s been increased scrutiny of the reading content found in classrooms and school libraries. The Republican-led Florida Legislature and state education leaders are making changes that critics say amount to book bans. WLRN’s Wilkin Brutus talked about that with a librarian in Palm Beach County.
