Florida Democrats have jumped into the fight over school mask mandates. They’ve been urging local school board members and superintendents to defy Governor Ron DeSantis and mandate students wear face coverings indoors. But as Robbie Gaffney reports, flying just under the mask fray is another issue – how the state should use billions in federal money to help schools mitigate the spread of COVID-19.

Coronavirus cases and hospitalizations are continuing to spike in Florida. That’s putting a strain on the state’s healthcare resources. Regan McCarthy spoke with Florida Hospital Association President and CEO Mary Mayhew about how hospitals are handling the pressure.

Here’s one example of how badly strained Florida hospitals are under the weight of COVID-19. Last week, a patient was flown from Florida to Connecticut to get a treatment called ECMO: a bypass machine for the heart and lungs.
