Leon County Government held its yearly Trunk or Treat Halloween party for both kids and grownups on Saturday, Oct. 17. The event spread out across the large backyard of the Old West Enrichment Center on Lake Bradford Road.

Colorful costumes abounded as the kids - and many of their parents - came all decked out in all kinds of fanciful garb, hoping to snag a prize or two in the various costume competitions. Leon County Director of Human Services and Community Partnerships Abby Thomas says there was also an educational aspect to the happening.

"We've got about 30 different non-profit agencies out here that are hosting the trunks so they have resources for families."

Frederica Hall was dispensing resources from one of the agency's trunks.

"We're giving out love and candy! I'm a doula at the coalition and a doula at one of the engagement sessions, so we're giving out some electrolytes, some deodorant for moms, some wipes and vitamin gummies as well as candy."

It was a sweet opportunity for the county's resource agencies serving kids and families to connect with more potential clientele.
