    This student production brings Stephen Sondheim’s haunting story to the Making Light stage, featuring a talented cast of young performers taking on one of musical theatre’s most iconic shows.

  • Join us at the Challenger Learning Center IMAX Theatre on Sunday, August 3 for Making Light at the Movies, a big-screen celebration of original short films created by Making Light students. Recommended for ages 8 and up because these films are creepy!

    The festival begins at 4:30 PM, and the house will open at 4:00 PM. Come early, find your seats, and enjoy the Challenger Learning Center’s IMAX Theatre, home of the best popcorn in town.

    Tickets are free but required. Donations are warmly welcomed and will support Making Light’s growing film and technical theatre programs, helping us purchase the equipment our students need to keep learning, creating, and telling their stories.

    Rachel Carson – Mother of the Environmental Movement

    Coinciding with America’s Everglades: Through the Lens of Clyde Butcher, join us for a special Dine & Discover Luncheon featuring Rebecca Henson, Founding Director of Springsong Museum in Silver Spring, Maryland, a museum dedicated to the life and legacy of Rachel Carson.

    Often regarded as the Mother of the Modern Environmental Movement, Rachel Carson was a National Book Award-winning author and biologist whose groundbreaking writing transformed the way people understood and valued the natural world. She traveled widely and spent time in the Everglades. Her work inspired generations to protect our environment and continues to influence conservation efforts today.

    Henson will explore Carson’s enduring legacy while also sharing insights into Springsong Museum and its mission to preserve and celebrate Carson’s life, work, and lasting impact on environmental stewardship.

    Luncheon reservations are required and can be made online. Seating is limited, and early registration is encouraged.
  • The Crooked River Lighthouse is hosting their Country Farmer’s Market on Saturday, August 15, from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm ET at the foot of Carrabelle's lighthouse. This outdoor market gives shoppers another opportunity to shop for unique gifts and deals while supporting local vendors, artists, bakers, artisans and crafters. Crooked River Lighthouse is located 1975 Hwy 98 West, Carrabelle, FL.

    Market-goers can stroll through the lighthouse grounds and browse an ever-changing
    variety of locally sourced and handcrafted items. Guests will find unique items like coastal décor, photography and art, jewelry, woven baskets, totes and bags, keychains, and cozy knit beanies and hats perfect for chilly days. Shoppers can explore organic, farm-fresh produce and eggs, grass-fed beef, batch-roasted coffee, starter plants, along with rich local honey and cane syrup, and homemade seasonal jellies, hot sauces and salsas. Visitors can also discover soothing soaps, candles, natural balms, and sprays, as well as local books, note cards, tumblers, and keepsakes. Treats like artisan breads, cinnamon or caramel rolls, cookies, cakes, and candied nuts are sure to be a favorite.

    Visitors are invited to explore the free Keeper’s House Museum and Gift Shop, open from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm ET. The museum features fascinating maritime history, including the lighthouse’s original historic Fresnel lens. The Gift Shop offers handcrafted items, jewelry, nautical art, souvenirs and keepsakes. Adventurous folks can also climb to the top of the tallest lighthouse on the Forgotten Coast. For an added adventure, visitors have the unique opportunity to climb to the top of the lighthouse for a breathtaking panoramic view of St. George Sound for a small fee.

    Vendors may sign up at any time for a $10 fee; no pre-registration required. Country Markets are held every 1st and 3rd Saturdays and are actively recruiting new and returning vendors.
