  • Tickets for the performance program of “Floating Metal: UNDERcurrents In My Father’s Garden” are now available!
“Floating Metal” extends nia love’s long-term serial project UNDERcurrents, which explores the enduring histories of the Middle Passage and transatlantic slavery. Engaging with her father Ed Love’s artistic legacy as a major sculptor of the Black Arts generation, this newest iteration reckons with the vexed matter of inheritance in Afro-diasporic history.
The performance program of “Floating Metal: UNDERcurrents In My Father’s Garden” will run from August 27-29: August 27 and 28 at 5:30 pm, and August 29 at 11:30 am and 3:30 pm. Tickets are free, but space is limited. Reserve your seat now. A public reception marking the exhibition's opening will be held on Thursday, September 3, from 5:30-7:30 pm.
Movement collaborators Cyan Hunter, Marco Farroni, Makeda-Lily Love-Roney, Jesse Phillips-Fein, Jelani Taylor, Diana Uribe, and Jessica Ziegler join nia love in animating this installation with choreographed scores and improvised actions. Within this whirl of activity and speculation, Floating Metal: UNDERcurrents In My Father’s Garden blurs distinctions of audience and performance, animate and inanimate, land and water, past and present.
The presentation of "Floating Metal: UNDERcurrents In My Father's Garden" by nia love was made possible by the New England Foundation for the Arts' National Dance Project, with lead funding from the Doris Duke Foundation and the Mellon Foundation. Additional support comes from FSU’s Council on Research + Creativity (CRC).
  • Join Eleanor Whitte as she shares her journey as a pioneering African American engineer, inventor, and motivational speaker. A Thomas County native, Whitte spent 35 years with Xerox Corporation, rising to serve as a Project Lead System Engineer and becoming a named inventor on a 1990 U.S. patent.

Whitte broke barriers in a field where few Black women were represented, building a legacy of perseverance, innovation, and leadership throughout her career. Her story reflects both the challenges and opportunities faced by African American women in science and engineering during the twentieth century. This program, sponsored by the Jack Hadley Black History Museum, celebrates a Thomas County trailblazer whose accomplishments reached far beyond our community.
  • Venvi Art Gallery is excited to announce The Architecture of Pattern, a two-artist exhibition of works by artists Christina Klein and Selena Nawrocki. This exhibition will be on display from September 4th to October 17th.
  • Venvi Art Gallery is thrilled to announce The Architecture of Pattern, a two-artist exhibition of works by artists Christina Klein and Selena Nawrocki. This exhibition will be on display from September 4th to October 17th, with its opening reception on September 4th from 5-8pm.

The Architecture of Pattern brings together Selena C. Nawrocki and Christina A. Klein in an exhibition exploring the relationship between space, memory, and material. Nawrocki's layered abstractions suggest interior worlds shaped by color and emotion, while Klein's materials reflect patterns in the natural world and the fabrics they inspire. Together, their works invite viewers into something deeply personal, that examines not only the nature of how our world is built, but how it is remembered. For both Nawrocki and Klein, inspiration begins with the built environment, though each approach it from a distinct perspective, Nawrocki through the symbolic movement of staircases that map emotional journeys, and Klein through daily observations layered into imagined environments. Together, the artists reveal architecture not simply as physical structure, but as a repository of history, emotion, and lived experience, inviting viewers to consider the lasting impact of the spaces we inhabit and leave behind.

Christina A. Klein earned her B.F.A. from Kansas State University and her M.F.A. from Florida State University. Her artistic practice has been shaped by her rural Kansas upbringing and studies in Austria and Germany. She currently lives in Oakland, California, where she does custom woodworking.

Dr. Selena C. Nawrocki is Professor of Interior Design and Art at Valdosta State University. She received her B.F.A. from Mississippi University for Women, her M.F.A. from the University of Memphis, and her Ph.D. degree from Mississippi State University. She is professional member of the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) and the Interior Design Educators Council (IDEC). An award-winning artist and educator, her work has been featured in more than 150 international juried exhibitions and has received multiple Best in Show honors.

The Architecture of Pattern will be on display from September 4th to October 17th. Its opening will be on September 4th from 5-8pm. Venvi Art Gallery is located at 2901 E Park Ave Unit 2800 Tallahassee, FL 32301. • America’s Everglades: Through the Lens of Clyde Butcher
    September 25 – December 12, 2026
    Sara May Love Gallery

This exhibition presents the America’s Everglades, the most acclaimed body of work by Clyde Butcher, and celebrates the life and legacy of Harry S. Truman, the visionary who dedicated the Everglades National Park and expanded our National Parks system.

Clyde Butcher is one of America’s foremost landscape photographers and a leading voice for environmental conservation in Florida. His accolades include the National Medal of Arts in 2022, the highest honor given to artists and arts patrons by the United States government, and Florida Artists Hall of Fame recognition in 1998, the highest honor given to an artist by the State of Florida.

Through his monumental images of the Florida Everglades, Butcher captures the quiet beauty, mystery, and resilience of one of the nation’s most treasured natural landscapes. His photographs reveal the delicate balance of life within this vast wilderness, inspiring viewers to reflect on the importance of preservation and the enduring relationship between humanity and nature.

Support for this program is provided by the National Endowment for the Arts, celebrating NEA America250: Arts Projects Honoring the National Garden of American Heroes.
