This workshop is inspired by our main exhibition, Aviary: SAQA International Quilting, on display from September 20 through December 14. Did you know that Florida likely has as many as 8,000 historic cemeteries, but only a little over 2,000 are recorded in the Florida Master Site File, which is the state’s official inventory of historic sites? Join Patrisha L. Meyers-Gidusko, supervisor of the Department of State's newly-created Historic Cemeteries Program, to learn how the State of Florida is helping to locate, document, and protect these important historical resources.

The program is free and open to the public.

The Leon County Sustainable Communities Summit Series continues with the Lake Carr Invasives Shoreline Cleanup on Saturday, September 28 at 9 a.m. Citizens will work alongside the Office of Sustainability to remove aquatic invasive species from the shoreline and shallow waters of Lake Carr at Cedar Hill Landing in an effort to keep the lake and surrounding ecosystems safe and healthy.

The event will include an informational presentation from County staff on local aquatic invasive species and guidance on how and what plants should be removed from the area. Buckets, gloves, and shovels will be available. Attendees should dress in comfortable clothes and close-toed shoes. Refreshments will be provided before beginning removal activities.

Join us to explore the pastimes of past times! What did kids do for fun in the many cultures that have called Florida home across history, and what activities do we still enjoy today? We will look at examples of toys and games that archaeologists have discovered from across centuries of Florida history, then take the fun home by decorating a puzzle to keep.

Each free program runs from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. and is designed for children ages 4 to 8 and their families.

In partnership with the TOUT-MONDE Art FOUNDATION, and Winthrop King Institute, the Florida State University Museum of Fine Arts is thrilled to announce HOMO SARGASSUM. Twenty-three Caribbean artists consider the adverse environmental effects caused by a human-induced over-abundance of sargassum in conversation with the social and historical atrocities of the Middle Passage to imagine a new human-nature symbiosis.
