Perspectives: Adoption From All Sides

Tom and three guests standing in the fm lobby

What’s it like to foster or adopt one or more children?  And what is it like to actually BE one of those kids?  As we kick off National Adoption Month, an expert panel examines these questions from multiple angles, even as Florida’s need for more foster and adoptive parents, as well as supportive volunteers, continues to grow.  We speak with: Jane Johnson, Director of Advocacy at the Florida Council for Community Mental Health; Shannon Carroll, Tallahassee-based adoptive mother of 7 children; Michelle Scott, FSU Senior who was in foster care herself for many years, experiencing 14 different placements before finally being adopted; Mary K. Wimsett, adoption attorney in Northeast Florida; and University of Florida professor and foster/adoptive parent Dr. Martie Gillen.
