Florida lawmakers have reached a deal on one of the most contentious issue facing the legislature this year—how to fill a billion dollar hole in a program reimbursing hospitals for treating uninsured patients. Lynn Hatter reports the move comes a week after the House torpedoed the Senate’s Medicaid Expansion plan.

More than 17,000 Americans died from prescription pain killer overdoses in 2011. The year before, heroin overdoses sent 3,000 to morgues across the country.  Today, more people die from overdoses than car crashes. Painkiller and heroin deaths can easily be avoided with a simple shot of Naloxone, an opiate reversing drug. As Jim Ash reports, Florida is joining 24 other states that make is available for private use.

More than a hundred bills made their way across Governor Rick Scott’s desk this week.  Nick Evans reports the governor approved nearly all of them.

Governor Rick Scott also signed bills aimed at changing Florida’s guardianship laws. As Sascha Cordner reports, one relates to helping the exploited elderly and another aims to help developmentally disabled kids aging out of Florida’s foster care system.
