Charter schools have historically gotten less funding than their traditional public school counterparts. The funding disparity has shrunk in recent years as lawmakers started steering more dollars to charters for building and maintenance projects. But as Lynn Hatter reports, that’s only exacerbated the fight over school construction money.

Florida high school students already get instruction on financial literacy before graduation.  A popular house bill would have made it a stand-alone, required course.  But Nick Evans reports the measure won’t be moving forward, despite a long and bi-partisan list of co-sponsors.

Several bills aimed at reforming Florida’s juvenile justice system cleared another hurdle in the House Monday. Sascha Cordner reports.

Florida is home to a squadron of world-famous flight schools, but the taxes on aviation fuel can further elevate those already sky-high education costs. As Matthew Seeger reports, Florida lawmakers see those taxes as unnecessary ballast that they’re just itching to jettison without a parachute.

While they could win a prize for the world’s driest martini, manufacturers of “palcohol,” -- powdered alcohol --  aren’t scoring points with their pre-marketing campaign. As Jim Ash reports, Florida a senate panel voted today (Monday) to ban powdered alcohol sales in Florida before it hits the shelves.     

The Florida Municipal Power Agency helps about 20 city-owned power companies provide electricity across the state. The cities created the agency decades ago, but Regan McCarthy reports since then officials say the FMPA’s business practices have started raising some eyebrows.
