A few years ago, controversy surrounded the Florida A&M and Florida State Universities’ joint College of Engineering with talks of a possible split debated in the state legislature. But, the university presidents say now, things are going well with last year’s appointment of a new dean.

J. Murray Gibson was appointed dean of the joint Florida A&M-Florida State University College of Engineering last summer. After focusing his initial efforts on revamping the college’s internal structure, Gibson is now reaching out to both parent institutions and the community to move the college into the top tier of schools nationwide.

A new governing structure at the Florida A&M-Florida State College of Engineering has some FAMU alumni upset. The changes represent a deal between the two schools reached earlier in the year.
