Brett Rutherford
News ResearcherBrett Rutherford is a reporter and news researcher at WFSU Pubic Media. From Riverview, Florida, he has earned both a bachelor’s and master’s degree from Florida State University. During his time at Florida State, he was a reporter within the sports department at WVFS, the student-run on-campus radio station. In 2020, he served as Sports Director during his senior year and hosted the weekly talk show Tomahawk Talk.
He is currently the play-by-play and public address announcer at many of Tallahassee Community College’s athletic events. In his free time, he enjoys going to the movies with his girlfriend and playing with his pets. As a hobby, he hosts Rays Your Voice, a weekly podcast covering the Tampa Bay Rays.

The state is re-testing blue-green algae bloom found in Lake Munson. The re-test comes after the Florida Department of Health issued and later rescinded a notice about toxic algae in the lake earlier this week.

Blue-green algae has bloomed on Lake Munson on the southeast side of Tallahassee according to the Florida Department of Health. The department is advising people to not swim, wade, use personal watercraft, water ski, or boat in waters where there is visible bloom. Blue-green algae can be identified by discolored water and floating mats that emit unpleasant odors.

A Tallahassee Starbucks on John Knox and North Monroe became the first Florida location Tuesday to unionize. Employees voted 16-1 in favor of unionization.

Charlie Adelson was transported from Broward County to Leon County this week and made his first court appearance in Tallahassee on Tuesday morning. Due to his charges, he was not assigned a bond, but his attorney, Margot Moss, has requested an Arthur Hearing. In the hearing, the judge will determine whether or not he can be released on bond.

Mike McLeod is retiring at the end of the season after more than 30 years as head coach of the Tallahassee Community College baseball team. His final home game is Wednesday evening against Pensacola State College.
