The FAMU/FSU College of Engineering has rebranded one of its key programs as "Mechanical and Aerospace." Florida A&M President Marva Johnson sees this as a big move forward for both universities as well as the entire region.
"We're still today the only joint college of engineering in the country. And to be able to continue this amazing partnership that lifts both campuses, it lifts both of our faculty and the opportunities for both schools' students. It actually amplifies our research and gives us the opportunity to have a multiplier effect as an institution."
Johnson also sees the college's new focus beefing up relations with the region's huge military aviation presence. FSU Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs Jim Clark believes it's a transformational move.
"To attract the aerospace industry to the Panhandle and to transform the region in terms of jobs and terms of becoming a center for innovation, manufacturing and important partnerships with the military and private sector in general."
Forty-three years after its founding, the FAMU/FSU College of Engineering remains a one-of-a-kind technical institution. Its unique leadership team insists its next 43 years will have even more of an impact on students, their futures and the future of the area in which the college resides.
