The U.S. Supreme Court may have upheld the Affordable Care Act for the second time, but the ruling hasn’t made President Obama’s signature healthcare law any less controversial. Lynn Hatter reports now in its third year, the law continues to change the American healthcare system—but there are growing concerns about the costs involved.

Consumers for Smart Solar rolled out its ballot initiative this week, hoping to overshadow the competition. But Floridians for Solar Choice, which has been collecting signatures since January, says the upstart is another attempt by the big utilities to pull the plug on an emerging industry.

Gun advocates want the courts to allow firearms on university campuses after state lawmakers refused to pull the trigger.  Nick Evans reports the case seeks to allow students to keep a gun in the place they call home—even if that’s the dorms.

The Florida Supreme Court recently ruled on a case relating to Florida’s controversial Stand Your Ground law. As Sascha Cordner reports, the matter—which pit State prosecutors against public defenders and defense lawyers—was also a point of contention during last year’s legislative session.

After President Barak Obama commuted the sentences of more than three dozen non-violent offenders, a Florida think tank is pushing lawmakers to reconsider the state’s sentencing policies.
