Viewing Governor Rick Scott’s tax proposal as too light, the Florida House of Representatives has released its own tax cut plan.  It even has its own hashtag: “#NoTaxIsSafe.”  Matthew Seeger reports on the House’s announcement, as well as Scott’s own “Cut My Taxes Week” event.

As the Florida Senate began to consider an omnibus bill to reform Florida’s troubled prison system, a Florida House committee has now also started to look into its own comprehensive reform package. But, as Sascha Cordner reports, there’s already one major difference between the two measures.

With another challenge of the department of health’s medical marijuana rules filed, state lawmakers are trying to untangle the mess that has become of last year’s so-called Charlotte’s Web law.  Nick Evans reports the senate regulated industries committee took up the matter Tuesday.

Hemp is grown from the same type of plant as marijuana, but experts say it has countless uses that don’t include getting high. Regan McCarthy reports lawmakers are considering a bill that would legalize hemp agriculture in Florida.

In what amounts to the year of the environment, the Senate focused today on Florida’s water and its troubled springs.  As Jim Ash reports, Republicans on the Environmental Preservation and Conservation Committee vowed to protect the quality and quantity of spring water, but critics charge those are just empty promises.

Could oil and natural gas exploration come to the seafloor off Florida’s Gulf and Atlantic coasts?  As Amy Greene with member station WMFE in Orlando tells us, there are those in the energy sector that want to see what fossil fuel riches may exist out there.  And there are also those determined to see that exploration never happens.
