A bill to protect Florida clergy from conducting marriage ceremonies that violate their beliefs is moving forward. Regan McCarthy reports, the next stop for the House measure is the chamber’s floor.

Alimony reform is back before Florida lawmakers. But the bill’s sponsor says this year’s version of the bill is different. Lynn Hatter reports Republican Representative Colleen Burton is backing one of the legislature’s most emotionally-charged issues.

The Florida House passed two gun bills yesterday. One would allow concealed carry on college campuses. The other would allow open carry in public places, including public universities.  But, as Ashley Tressel tells us, passage is by no means assured in the other chamber.

It’s happening slowly, but the Legislature’s posture toward illicit drugs is shifting.  But Nick Evans reports even as lawmakers revisit long-standing attitudes, supporters face significant hurdles in their effort to reinvent Florida policy.

Still smarting from the court’s heavy hand in redistricting, conservative Republicans continued today (Thursday) to push for term limits for Florida’s Supreme Court and appellate judges.  Republican Representative John Wood of Winter Haven wants voters to decide whether twelve years on the Supreme Court or district courts of appeal should be enough, as we hear from Jim Ash.

Wednesday evening the Florida House passed a bill that would prohibit sanctuary cities in the state. But Kate Payne reports the bill may stall out in the Senate.

A bill involving the recital of the “Pledge of Allegiance” in schools has passed its first House Committee. Sascha Cordner reports.
