Leon County Commissioner David O'Keefe has defeated challenger David Hawkins to win another term representing District Five.
O'Keefe received 69 percent of the vote, winning by about 10 thousand votes.
A certified public accountant, O'Keefe was first elected to the County Commission in 2022. His district includes portions of central Tallahassee. He says he thinks he won because he kept his promises to voters.
“Four years ago, I promised to be the same person, to not be changed by the system, to stick to my values, to deliver on accountability, transparency, affordable housing, and constituent services, bringing sidewalks, improving people's neighborhoods, and I believe I've done exactly that," he said.
O’Keefe’s campaign also outspent Hawkins 10-1, about $40,000 to about $4,000. His race was the second largest margin in competitive local contests, behind Leon County Commissioner Rick Minor’s 73 percent support.
