The City of Tallahassee broke ground on Tuesday, June 24 for its first city-owned electric vehicle charging station. City Manager Reese Goad said the 4-charging stand facility will have the latest and greatest technology.

"These are DC-based chargers, level III, they'll be the fastest. So you can pull up and within 15 or 20 minutes with a depleted battery, have a full charge."

The charge per kilowatt/hour will be 30 cents. That means a full battery recharge will generally range from $9 to $30, depending on the vehicle.

Being near the corner of South Adams and West Van Buren streets, Goad said drivers

can stroll along Cascades Trail or grab a beverage at a nearby bistro while they wait. He added a second station is already in the works.

"We just broke ground last month on a neighborhood park at the corner of Orange Avenue and Meridian Street. Today I'm also pleased to officially announce that the city's second Power TLH charging station will be built in this new park on Orange Avenue."

Eventually, he said the city plans to have a total of 5 similar charging stations located around town.
