Following last week’s victory over Pittsburgh, which was marred by a brawl at the end of the game, the Florida State University men led from start to finish Saturday afternoon and won another ACC game against a scrappy Georgia Tech team, 91-78.
The home crowd of 6,751 saw the Noles lead by as many as 15 points in the first half and the first twenty minutes ended with a 37-24 FSU lead. But Tech began the second half with speed and better defense and cut the lead to as little as three points.
However, FSU finished strong, and Coach Leonard Hamilton was able to provide his bench players with some court time at the game’s end. With the victory, FSU improved their season record to 13-5 and conference record to 4-3.
FSU was led by Taylor Bol Bowen with 20 points and Malik Ewin finished with his fourth consecutive double-double, 17 points and 11 rebounds.
Next for the Noles is a two-game west coast trip that begins in Berkeley for a Wednesday night game against California.
On Sunday afternoon, not to be out done, the FSU women, who won resoundingly at home last Thursday against Clemson, again won in record-breaking fashion over the visiting women from Miami. The Noles treated the home crowd to an 88-66 victory over the Canes.
The Lady Noles remain unbeaten at home and have a season record of 15-4 and an ACC record of 5-2. FSU was led by Ta’Niya Latson with 30 points and Makayla Timpson who posted a program record-breaking 42nd career double-double finishing the game with 10 points and 13 rebounds, and she also had four blocked shots.
The Noles travel to Chapel Hill to face 14th ranked North Carolina next Sunday, the 26th.
To add the excitement, it was alumni weekend for the FSU Basketball Program with both men’s and women’s teams honoring star players from the past during halftime ceremonies at both games.
