Big Bend and coastal areas see mandatory evacuations ahead of Helene

Many Big Bend and panhandle counties have issued voluntary (yellow) and mandatory (red) evacuation notices ahead of Helene's expected Thursday landfall

This story has been updated to add storm shelters in Leon County.

Several counties have issued mandatory evacuation orders ahead of Helene’s anticipated landfall Thursday night in the Big Bend.

The coastal counties of Taylor, Wakulla and Franklin have issued county-wide evacuation orders for ALL residents.

Leon, Madison and Jefferson have issued evacuation notices for mobile and manufactured homes RVs, and areas that may be low-lying.

Other counties have issued voluntary evacuation notices.

Helene is expected to hit the Big Bend Thursday as a major hurricane with wind speeds projected at 110 mph or higher.

  • Lincoln High School, 3838 Trojan Trail
  • Godby High School, 1717 W. Tharpe Street
  • Leon High School, 550 E. Tennessee Street
  • SAIL High School, 2006 Jackson Bluff Road
  • Fort Braden School, 15100 Blountstown Hwy
  • Fairview Middle School, 3415 Zillah Street
  • Rickards High School, 3013 Jim Lee Rd.
