This follows a now-closed investigation into mismanagement allegations against the former chief of police.

After nearly a year, the City of Quincy has ended its search for a new police chief. Carlos Hill was sworn in Aug. 29th at the Gadsden County Courthouse.

Hill had served as Quincy’s interim chief since November 2023.

Quincy City Manager Robert Nixon appointed Hill into the permanent position after he fired former chief Timothy Ashley on October 31 for “mismanaging department funds.”

"We cannot compromise public safety, whether it be fire or police," Nixon wrote in the termination letter.

Nixon also says Ashley failed to maintain a functional work environment.

"The justifications that I provided to Chief Ashley should not have been a surprise. I'm surprised that he's surprised."

Ashley denies all allegations.

The former chief recently lost his bid for Gadsden County Sheriff to incumbent Sheriff Morris Young.

As for Chief Hill, he says his first 100 days will be spent recruiting new officers and improving their technology.
