The Rattlers successfully defeated their in-conference foes in what was a record breaking 2-day event

Florida A&M University is celebrating another athletic success. The women’s indoor track and field team won its first Southwestern Athletic Conference title Sunday.

The Lady Rattlers' walked out of Birmingham, Alabama, with 15 medals and the SWAC Championship. FAMU beat 11 other schools including the defending SWAC champs, Alabama State.

FAMU’s Nya Blocker and Breanna Brown-Marshall set SWAC championship records in both the 200-meter dash (23.24) and high jump (1.83 meters / 6'). Several of their teammates ran some of their best times all season. By the end of the 2-day meet, FAMU collected six gold, five silver, and four bronze medals.

Sunday’s win gave FAMU’s director of Track & Field, Garfield Ellenwood II, his second SWAC title after he recently led the women's cross-country team to the championship last October.

The Rattlers will take a few weeks to recover before the final qualifying list for the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships (March 8-9) is announced.
