A Jefferson County Commissioner has died.

Local authorities have confirmed that Walker died from injuries sustained in a Sunday car crash.

A spokesperson from the Wakulla County Sheriff’s Office says the crash took place at the intersection of US Highway 98 and Spring Creek Highway in Wakulla. Sheriff deputies who responded to the crash found Walker at the scene and rendered aid.

Walker, who was serving as Commissioner for Jefferson’s fifth district, was 59-years-old. His most recent work involved helping the community carry out hurricane relief projects. Jefferson County’s Sheriff's office released the following statement on its Facebook page:

"On behalf of the entire Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office family- we extend our condolences to the family of Commissioner Stephen Walker. We are all devastated by his death and his loss is felt throughout our entire community.
