The two hitmen and Charlie Adelson’s former girlfriend are now behind bars, and Charlie Adelson is accused of ordering Markel’s murder.

Testimony began Thursday in the Charlie Adelson murder trial. On the state, his sister Wendi said her family had nothing to do with the murder of her ex-husband.

Dan Markel was an FSU law professor who was shot in his Betton Hills garage 9 years.

Adelson is accused of masterminding the murder for hire. Two hitmen and a former girlfriend of Adelson’s who acted as a go-between among the conspirators have been convicted so far.

Assistant state attorney Georgia Cappleman questioned Wendi Adelson:

Cappleman: “How did the killers in this case know that Dan Markel was planning to leave town the day after the killing?

Wendi Adelson: “I have no idea.”

Cappleman: “You knew he was planning to leave town the next day, didn’t you?”

Wendi Adelson: “I did, yes.”

Cappleman: “Did you convey that information to anyone?”

Wendi Adelson: “Absolutely not.”

Cappleman: “To your knowledge, did your brother have that information?”

Wendi Adelson: “I don’t know why he would’ve known that.”

Wendi Adelson said she was surprised to find out just yesterday that her brother knew the people who were convicted of shooting Markel. She was fighting Markel over custody of their two young sons and wanted to move with them to South Florida when Markel was murdered.
