Katherine Magbanua speaks to her defense attorney Christopher DeCoste as Assistant State Attorney Georgia Cappleman delivers her closing argument on Friday, May 27, 2022, in the retrial of Magbanua for the 2014 murder of Dan Markel in Tallahassee, Fla.

A woman serving life in prison for her role in the murder of an FSU law professor may become a witness for the state.

Katherine Magbanua is being called by prosecutors later this month to answer questions in a private meeting at the state attorney’s office in Leon County. Magbanua is incarcerated in Ocala.

The move comes as the state prepares a case against Charlie Adelson, the 4th suspect to be tried in the 2014 murder of Dan Markel.

Magbanua was convicted for being the link between Adelson, Markel’s former brother-in-law, and the two convicted hitmen. Adelson’s sister was in a contentious custody battle with Markel when he was shot at his Betton Hills home.
