Charlie Adelson, a Florida dentist, is accused of hiring hit men in the summer of 2014 to kill his sister’s ex-husband, FSU law professor Dan Markel. Adelson is facing murder and other charges. Three people connected to the plot have already been convicted.

A high profile trial starts later this month in Tallahassee.

Opening statements begin October 23rd in the Charlie Adelson murder trial. He’s accused of orchestrating the murder of FSU law professor Dan Markel, who was shot in his Betton Hills garage in the summer of 2014.

Prosecutors say Charlie Adelson’s sister was engrossed in a nasty custody battle with Markel, and Adelson, a dentist, hired hitmen and another party to pass money and information.

Three people have been convicted so far. They are hitmen Sigfredo Garcia and Luis Rivera, and Katherine Magbanua, who acted as a go-between among the participants.

Now, prosecutors have subpoenaed Adelson’s parents, Donna and Harvey, for questioning. They skipped the first appointment. So, Leon Circuit Judge Stephen Everett says if the Adelsons don’t appear for an interview on Oct. 17, they could face contempt of court charges.
