Another arrest has been made in the murder of FSU law professor Dan Markel.
His former brother-in-law, Charlie Adelson, was arrested in Broward County this morning for first-degree murder, solicitation of murder and conspiracy to commit murder.
The Tallahassee Democrat broke the story that Adelson was at home when he was taken into custody by the U.S. Marshals Service.
Markel was shot while sitting in his car in his Betton Hills garage in July 2014. He had been battling his ex-wife over custody of their two children.
Two people were convicted as hired hitmen in the case. Katherine Magbanua, Adelson’s former girlfriend, is scheduled to be tried again next month. Prosecutors say she’s the link between Adelson and the hitmen.
We've reached out to State Attorney Jack Campbell for comment. Campbell told the Tallahassee Democrat Adelson was indicted Wednesday by a Leon County grand jury.
Statement of Orin Snyder and Matt Benjamin, attorneys for the Markel Family:
The Markel Family is deeply grateful to the State Attorney’s Office, the FBI, and all members of law enforcement for their tireless pursuit of justice. Nearly eight years after Danny’s tragic murder, these dedicated public servants continue to fight to honor Danny’s memory and to hold accountable all those responsible for his horrific death. On behalf of Danny’s family and friends in the Tallahassee community and all over the world, thank you.
