TPD arrest third suspect in Westridge home robbery, police shooting

The Tallahassee Police Department has arrested 26-year-old Tyrell Guinnie.

The agency broke the news Wednesday afternoon, just days after their team of detectives found and placed two other men in custody for connected incidents.

  • According to TPD, all three suspects are linked to at least one of two drug-related home burglaries that took place on Sandpiper Street and Cypress Point Road Monday, Sept. 25th.
  • Guinnie, 25, is being held with two counts of accessory after the fact, while John’Darious Wright and Rahiym Sanders face home invasion robbery charges with more pending.
  • TPD says the injured officer has undergone multiple surgeries and remains in stable condition.

On Tuesday, Oct. 3rd, Tallahassee Police announced the arrest of 26-year-old Rahiym Sanders in Alachua County. Sander's arrest comes after the home invasion robbery and subsequent shooting of a TPD officer that occurred on Sept. 25.

Sanders is charged with attempted murder of a law enforcement officer, attempted murder, home invasion robbery and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

UPDATE: September 29
A man accused of shooting a Tallahassee Police Officer during an interrupted burglary last week is also a suspect in a previous home invasion.

  • 25-year-old John’Darious Wright is now in custody facing multiple charges including attempted murder.
  • Both burglaries took place last Monday. At the time, investigators thought the incidents were not connected but after further investigation.

UPDATE: 10 a.m. September 26
Today, the Tallahassee Police Department (TPD) announced the arrest of one of the suspects in connection with the home invasion robbery and subsequent shooting of a TPD officer that occurred in the 2300 block of Sandpiper Street Monday morning.

According to TPD’s Violent Crimes Unit, 25-year-old John’Darious Wright has been arrested for attempted first-degree murder of a law enforcement officer, attempted first-degree murder, home invasion robbery, possession of firearm by a convicted felon, and obstruction of a search warrant.

UPDATE: 3:45 p.m. September 25
Tallahassee Police Department says its detained two people for questioning in a shooting, robbery that unfolded early Monday morning. As of 3:45 p.m. no arrests have been made.

Tallahassee Police Department responded to a call around 2:30 a.m. about a residential burglary at the Villas of Westridge on Sandpiper Street.

TPD Chief Lawrence Revell says officers interrupted the burglary and that’s when at least one suspect fled on foot, before another emerged from the residence with a gun and began firing at officers.

Residents and businesses remain on high alert

31, Leticia Banks, lives in the neighborhood and she says she could hear the commotion from her apartment a couple of streets over. Banks says the sound of her dog barking woke her and she was still awake at the time of the incident.

“I just so happen to start working out and as soon as I looked up there was like this bright flash of light in my window," Banks explained. "I looked outside, and I thought it was a cop.”

Banks says around the same time, her neighbor sent her a video from a Ring camera, that’s when she says she knew something wasn’t quite right.

“I could see it was about like 20 cops outside with the K-9's and their guns drawn.”

Around 6:30 in the morning, TPD put out an advisory to residents within a mile of the incident that three people were involved in a drug related burglary and that everyone in the area should be cautious and remain alert.

That’s when Regina Hall, who oversees the Miracles In Me Child day care, says she put the facility on lockdown.

“It was lit up like Christmas," said Hall. "It was [there were] a lot of police cars and sirens. Lots of red and blue covering the parking lot.”

Hall says she notified parents of the situation and held out on allowing anymore parents to drop off their child until TPD gave the okay.

“When we came in, we notified our parents through ProCare what was going on so do not come. You know, and we will let you know when it’s a little bit clearer.”

The daycare continued operating but parents were told to call ahead before picking up and dropping off.

Following Monday’s events, TPD has issued a $10,000 reward for exchange of any information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the suspects in the incident.
