Wakulla County is preparing for Tropical Storm Idalia. Forecasters expect the storm to make landfall Wednesday as a major hurricane.

As of Monday afternoon, the county officials have issued evacuation orders for Coastal and low-lying areas, as well as residents living in mobile homes.

"We're currently just waiting and coordinating with state officials and federal officials to make sure we have the most updated information," said County Sheriff's Office Public Information Officer Jeffrey Yarbrough.

"On our Facebook page, there’s a link to where citizens can find out their evacuation zone and any evacuation routes should they be needed.”

The county will not be opening any emergency shelters. According to a news release sent out by Wakulla's Emergency Management, the county does not have shelters capable of withstanding the potential effects of a category-3 storm.

However, WCSO will be passing out sandbags at the Sheriff's Office from 9am to 3:30pm on Tuesday.

More information about Wakulla's emergency plans can be found on the county website and on Facebook at www.facebook.com/wakullasheriffsoffice.
