One of Florida's most celebrated small-town festivals is officially underway. It's all happening in the Jefferson County seat, half-an-hour east of Tallahassee.
Katrina Richardson has been chairing the Monticello Watermelon Festival for almost one-seventh of its existence.
"This is our 72nd annual festival! We've been going strong since 1949."
The event actually began this past weekend with the crowning of Lena Sullivan as this year's Watermelon Festival queen. Richardson says the festivities continue through Saturday, June 17th.
"We have over 100 arts and crafts vendors and I think 17 food vendors. But we had to cut it off over a month ago because we were full."
