Superintendent of Schools Rocky Hanna holds a press conference at the Leon County School District Office this Monday afternoon to address concerns over changing mask mandates and policies in the wake of a surge in cases brought on by the delta variant of COVID-19.

Another charter school in Tallahassee may be in violation of its agreement with the district. The Leon County School District says Governors Charter hasn't been properly reporting students’ grades, attendance, and medical records.

Superintendent Rocky Hanna’s April 12th letter, also points out the school’s lack of staff and missing documentation for federal grant reimbursements and emergency relief dollars.

Governors Charter was handed a five-day grace period to present a plan to resolve the issues. When asked what the punishment would be if the Academy fails to meet the deadline, LCS spokesman Chris Petley said:

"That would be a question for the legal teams on both sides, and the school board and the superintendent to come to fruition," said Petley. "But, we’re really hopeful that it’s not going to come to that. The superintendent has a meeting already set for tomorrow to meet with representatives from charter school USA. We have been in constant communication with them at a staff level trying to work through these issues and we hope we’ll get to a clarifying point to ensure students are receiving the best education possible."

Just two weeks ago, Tallahassee Classical School was notified about an issue regarding the number of members on the school’s board.
