Leon County’s job creators were meeting with the area’s employee providers on Aug. 23rd. The fact the region is near full employment is making it ever harder to find qualified workers.
Curtis Richardson, who is now the public relations coordinator for Lively Tech, was plugging his employer at Career Source Capital Region’s Industry Sector conference.
“(To) let them know that Lively exists and secondly to talk about the programs,” he told the group during the meeting at Florida State University's Turnbull Center.
Career Source Capital Region’s Jim McShane said the fact this area’s jobless rate is at only 4 percent makes matching jobs and workers a challenge.
“People think such low unemployment that we don’t really need a lot of workforce development. No, we still need a lot of workforce development,” McShane stressed, adding that the help-wanted signs are out in abundance.
“IT (information technology) is hiring probably the most right now along with health care," he elaborated. Those two are the hot sectors. Health is always going to be on top everywhere in the country it is. Nursing is always going to be number one wherever you go.”
