Florida’s new budget provides funding for a North Florida food distribution center that is looking to make some upgrades.
The 2018-2019 state budget includes $1 million dollars for Second Harvest of the Big Bend, an emergency food relief center for North Florida. The organization originally asked for $2.4 million, but plans on using another million in financing to make up the difference. Second Harvest CEO Rick Minor explains the distribution of the new budget.
“Roughly about 1.75 million of that will be used to purchase the building. 190,000 will be used to install and purchase a generator. And then the remainder, I think about 60,000, will be used for warehouse upgrades,” Minor says.
Second Harvest distributed over 350,000 pounds of emergency food and water during last year’s hurricane season.
