Publix Supermarkets has awarded a major grant to Second Harvest of the Big Bend. It will mean thousands of meals to school children and families throughout an 11-county area of North Florida.
The $100,000 award came Thursday (10/12) at the Publix in Tallahassee's Village Square. Publix District Manager Phil Harrison made the symbolic check presentation to Second Harvest CEO Rick Minor. Minor said the money will pay for more than 15,000 food backpacks for school kids, as well as enough food to stock 20 mobile pantries that serve low-income neighborhoods.
